What is an I/O Glyph?

An I/O Glyph is a melding of ideas both ancient and new. I/O is a computer related abbreviation standing for Input/Output. Glyph is of Greek origin, from "glyphein" meaning "to carve". Glyphs are among the most ancient forms of art, communication and representations of sympathetic magic - from the petroglyphs of pre-civilized man to the carvings that adorn the tombs of Egyptian kings to Norse runic inscriptions.

The term I/O Glyph is intended to convey the notion of capturing mental structures in an online world. I/O Glyphs are memories, thoughts, ideas and all the thousands of perceptions, notions, actions and inputs that we process, filter and make coherent in our minds as we live.

I/O Glyph is pronounced similarly to "hieroglyph".
